Woodworkers’ skill : Carving
This is English site
This processing technique has been used since ancient times to produce the ranma (openwork screen above the sliding partitions between two rooms) of houses or Buddha statues. The wooden pieces are well dried before use. When they are rigid, they are softened by covering them with a piece of cloth soaked in hot water before they are carved.
