In the Tohoku region, Japanese cedar trees were most commonly planted after logging. Cedars bloom around early spring. In the fall, seeds are extracted from yellowish brown ripe nuts, which are then sown in the field to produce seedlings. In the spring, people plant the seedlings in the mountain.
First, they remove weeds, miscellaneous trees and stubs, and then plant seedlings, which have been immersed in water, in artificial large and deep holes. To obtain excellent timber, it was necessary to take care of plants including removing slowly growing or curved trees and cutting down the lower branches of trees.
