Hand wheel
The hand wheel has been used since the Heian era. The axe is rotated by strongly pulling the rope wound around the axis by hand. This tool involved a joint effort between the wood grain shaver and the rope puller. It is believed that by using a hand wheel, it was possible to make 100 bowls each day.
